Fasteners Carbon equivalent (wt%) calculation formula (chemical composition unit is WT %)

2021 11/02

CE(IIW)= C + Mn / 6 +(Cu + Ni)/ 15 +(Cr + Mo + V)/ 5

CE(IIW) : from the International Welding Society, is also the most commonly used carbon equivalent calculation formula, but not applicable to all steel, please pay attention to the requirements of the technical specification when using.

CE(WES)= C + Si / 24 + Mn / 6 + Ni / 40 + Cr / 5 + Mo / 4 + V / 14

CEq(JWES) : from The Japan Welding Society, for low alloy hardened + tempered steel, please pay attention to the requirements of the technical specification when using.

Pcm = C + Si / 30 + Mn / 20 + Cu / 20 + Ni / 60 + Cr / 20 + Mo / 15 + V / 10 + 5B

Suitable for high strength and low carbon steel, including B steel, pipeline steel, such as API 5L, and sometimes also for hardened + tempered steel plates. In particular, Pcm is a more suitable carbon value for low carbon steel with lower carbon content than 0.12%, especially for high Ni, Cu, Cr, Mo, V steel.

CEN = C + f(C){Si / 24 + Mn / 6 + Cu / 15 + Ni / 20 +(Cr + Mo + Nb + V)/ 5+5B},f(C)= 0.75 + 0.25tanh {20(C - 0.12)}

From Japan (YURIOKA), such as Canada Allince pipeline, Sudan pipeline standard adopted, please pay attention to the requirements of technical specifications when using.

CE(AWS)=C +(Mn +Si)/ 6 +(Cu + Ni)/ 15 +(Cr + Mo + V)/ 5

From the American Welding Society, please pay attention to the requirements of the technical specification when using.

CET=C+(Mn+Mo)/10+(Cr+Cu)/20+Ni/40(Scope of applicationwt%:
0.05≤C≤0.32,Si≤0.8,0.5≤Mn≤1.9,Cr≤1.5,Cu≤0.7,Mo≤0.75,Nb≤0.06,Ni≤2.5,Ti≤0.12,V≤0.18,B≤0.005)

From ThyssenKrupp, Germany, please pay attention to the requirements of the technical specification when using.
